History and governance.

Founded in 1967, Mackay Memorial College stands as a beacon of academic excellence, guided by a dedicated board of trustees and experienced administrators committed to upholding the highest standards of education.

Our Founder: Alexander Mackay Murdock (1849 – 1890).

Alexander Mackay, born in Scotland in 1849, was a missionary whose legacy continues to inspire generations. Responding to Stanley’s appeal, Mackay journeyed to Uganda under the Church Missionary Society in 1878, driven by a deep sense of purpose.

Mackay’s multifaceted talents and unwavering dedication to education and compassion left an indelible mark on Uganda’s history. From preaching and teaching to printing and carpentry, Mackay’s contributions were diverse and impactful.

Despite facing numerous challenges, Mackay’s vision and determination led to significant achievements. He established Christian centers, abolished cruel customs, and advocated for the protection of human rights.

Through his teachings and actions, Mackay transformed lives and laid the foundation for formal education in Uganda. His legacy lives on in the countless individuals who continue to benefit from his pioneering efforts.

Today, Mackay’s story serves as a reminder of the power of education, compassion, and perseverance in shaping a better future for all. His example inspires us to continue his mission of spreading the gospel and empowering others through knowledge and compassion.
